More to come later…
bmi calculator, body, body image, change your mind, change your mindset, coaching, curious, fat, fitness, lose weight, mentoring, obese, over weight, polite, signup update, true story, weight loss, what matters is what you think
I am going to talk to you about body image today. Specifically, your body image. It does not matter what others think. No, really. It doesn’t.
If you think you are never going to be thin, then you will act that way. If you think you are going to be thin, you will act that way. You make that final decision to walk an extra five minutes, take the stairs instead of the steps, control your diet…
Getting your mind set to change is the first step of many. You know why you are where you are at and that is what matters. When the time comes that you are ready for change you will know where you are at and you wont have to do much searching as to why you are there. Just start planning your changes.
There are a lot of little steps mixed in that first step.
I collect my weight mostly in my abdomen. More weight = bigger, rounder abdomen(stretched from pregnancy, so it goes into a nice round shape).
When I was heavier people would ask me if I was pregnant. When I was self conscious and felt embarrassed about being overweight I would just answer no and move along (feeling embarrassed, didn’t want to look at anyone in the face just wanted to get out of that room as soon as possible).
Change your body image, change your attitude.
Once my body image changed so did my attitude. While I was still fat but working on changing my body image (how I perceived myself and all my beautiful extra-ness), I would be asked “Are you pregnant?”. My answer: “Nope, just fat.”(and I knew why, but I was not going into that, I would just smile and keep going).
People are naturally curious creatures.
I could then see that the person that asked was then more embarrassed than myself and just trying to strike up a friendly conversation. They were naturally curious. I was naturally honest, polite, and picked a different topic for them.
Remove the stigma of words.
A lot rests in how you take the message being presented to you, you can either defuse the situation or escalate it. Thinking back now, maybe I should have used the word ‘overweight’ which is more socially acceptable. I accept fat, overweight, obese (where I technically started). Obesity is defined as having more than 30 percent body fat (find any bmi calculator – and plug in your numbers. The simplest one I use is found on the nhlbi.nih.gov website BMI Caclulator. (I’m going to try to make one myself, I’ve been told to find the code but I kinda want to make it from scratch just to say I did that – suggestions?)
You have to have a clear understanding of where you are right now, to see where you have to go.
You have to take a good strong look at where you are at and just be accepting to move on to the next step towards your long term goal/s. You have to be real with yourself, matter of fact ‘so to speak’, remove the emotion for just one second so you can see clearly without beating yourself up (which is what tends to happen when we still have the stigma attached to the word). Make it more technical. Use the word to help to point you in the direction that you have to go. Use the calculator. Play around with it by inserting a lower weight and see where you end up at the higher and the lower percentages. What you envision is all possible when you know where you are starting from.
You make the final decision!
You are the one that makes the final decisions that take you in the direction you set!
Happy 4th of July weekend everyone!
To everyone out there this weekend, Have a happy and safe 4th of July, stop worrying about what others think of your body. Remember to use kind words about yourself when you do talk about your body. What matters most is what you think!
Currently signing people up to work with me towards their goals (lose weight, stop smoking, gain weight healthily, stop drinking, going back to school… the possibilities are endless). Please email me at email@example.com I’m still working on the program details and will keep you posted. Sign up by e-mailing the type of mentoring support you are interested in. Phone or email. Monthly or weekly. What works best for you? Signup@wait2goal.com
So true, words are very powerful. Please watch what you say and how you say it. With that said it is how you interpret the message as well. I use to be asked if I was pregnant when I was heavier and when I was self conscious about it, I would just say no, but feel bad inside about it to myself and embarrassed.
When I finally started accepting my body image and holding close to me positive and encouraging people, everything changed.
The response to “are you pregnant?” Soon became… Nope, just fat (smile and continue what I was doing). Sometimes the other person is just naturally curious (some would be so embarrassed asking that question).
We are naturally curious as human beings. You can’t fault us for that.
So, for my own sake of mind I interpret it as a person just being curious. If they are being mean I keep going… elsewhere.
One of the best things to remember to reach your goal is to keep moving. One of the second best things is to be realistic about where you are and the moves you are making.
This brings me to one of my favorite quotes by William Arthur Ward “The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.”
I lived my life as a pessimist for a number of years after realizing that just being optimistic about things didn’t change anything. Pessimism didn’t get me anywhere either, except maybe more grey hairs, higher blood pressure… After learning to look at things differently I became a realist and adjusted my sails. That is when things started to change for me.
A lot of people think that losing weight or reaching your goal/s is a mechanical process, and for the most part it is. Remember what I said above to reach your goal you have to keep moving. It is the other part that we ignore that gets us into trouble. We need to get our mind set for what is to come.
How do you get your mind set? Easy, you figure out where you are now and where you want to go. It is the how to get there and what to do along the way that is sometimes the difficult part for some (most, including myself when I first started). That’s when discussing our thoughts with other people helps us keep it real. Sometimes in talking to people we or they help us to see where we are not keeping it real. Where we need to adjust that sail.
Update: I am currently looking for people to sign up with me to mentor them in whatever the need may be. Please email me at email@example.com and I will get back to you on the process to sign up. Since I am starting out new the prices are going to be discounted and whomever signed up with me from now will have those prices locked until they cancel services.
Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org with any suggestions or ideas you may have. Thank you all for your time, I look forward to working with you.
I decided to take my site weight2goal.com in a direction that I had only thought of momentarily before. I’m going to build a membership website where I will have drip content, have a members support forum, and provide options for personalized coaching (email or phone). The material I will use will be from my initial posts on this blog. After the getting started phase, I will teach you how to get to your goal weight.
A membership website will help me to reach many people at the same time and let me actively work with those that need more help.
I want to help as many people as possible and I have so many ideas of different things I can teach others. I’d like to be available to coach others to acheive their fullest potential. The one thing that I feel most confident in showing you is how to get to your weight goal and even surpassing it, like I have mine. I believe you can use my goal setting tips for anything even quitting smoking if you wanted.
I will be available in the evenings to answer questions by email from the hours of 6-10 M-F EST.
EMAIL: email@example.com. Please let me know what goal you are working towards, what frequency of contact you are looking for(email, phone, weekly, monthly).
Still working on the pricing details. (Some coaches charge a monthly retainer from 300-1000/mo). I’m looking for people to help me gain experience, and build material that I will use in my future work so I’m going to be starting at less while you help me help you move forward. Please contact me for rates. Rates will vary on your needs. Weekly, monthly, phone or email. I’m open to suggestions.
What I will be teaching you.
I will teach you how look at yourself differently, body and all, and to accept yourself.
I will teach you how to work with slip ups or even how to work them into your life. Planned slip ups… Kinda takes the fun or of it right? Not really.
I will teach you how to look at food differently. I will show you all of the uses different foods have in our present everyday lives.
I will teach you how to get the most use from the foods you eat and how to use them when you are hungry.
I have already been able to help more than a few people reduce their weight and move closer to other goals.
I have surpassed my own goal without struggling and I want to help you all do the same.
I tell you a little more about myself on my website Wait2goal.Com. I am currently doing this part-time and would love the opportunity to reach as many people as possible by doing this full time.
Show your support of my work.
If you like my work please show your support. Support can take various forms. You can help by sharing my work with others you think I might be able to help, liking my work, leaving thoughtful comments, following me, coming back to see what’s new, visiting my website wait2goal.com, any suggestions for improvement, by signing up for a membership once my new site (weight2goal.com) is up and running, and by showing your support now.
Please visit my website wait2goal.com and see the options that are available for showing your support for my new membership website and my present work. One of the most important things in life is having faith to fall back on. Many studies show that people who are religious are more likely to be happier and to have less worries than people that don’t follow any religion.
I have to say that I have had to deal with a lot of things in my life (which is peanuts compared to others lives, but still a lot to me). Once I learned to put my trust and worries in God’s hands my life became much better, my stress level came down. I became less anxious and started trusting that God has my best interests in mind and that everything happens for a reason, whether good or bad.
As much as we want to be in control of our surroundings and our happenings there are just some things that are out of our control. That’s when being able to put your worries in a higher power and trusting that it will all come out all right becomes very important.
Today I want to encourage you to find a faith, whether it be through religion or just starting a personal conversation with a higher power. Ask for guidance and most of all ask for peace in your heart. Religion has been my saving grace in my life and hopefully it can be a saving grace in yours.
Again thank you for reading, liking, following me and to everyone in my life for all your support. You have made a great difference in my life and I want to thank you with all my heart.
I love to hear from readers such as yourself. I am looking forward to hearing from you and hearing your thoughts regarding having faith in your life.
Please let us know how has having Faith affected you , your life and those around you?
UPDATE! I’m still working on getting my website (wait2goal.com) up the way I want it, I’ve been working on trying to get advertising up and keeping updates as to the happenings of the site. My next steps will be to move the updates to an updates page and start adding more content. The ebook is being written every time I post and of course I will make it meatier to give you more content when it does come out.
